Aerial view of Minnesota's Art Shanty Projects

One of the best -- and oddest -- cold-weather pastimes here in Minnesota is the Soap Factory's Art Shanty Projects. Appropriating the tradition of icefishing, the annual outdoor exhibition on Medicine Lake showcases icehouses made for artistic purposes. Projects in the past have ranged from a Korean karaoke shanty to a mobile pedal-powered house (which briefly appears in my MnIndy video of last summer). Via @walkerartcenter we find a great series of aerial photos, taken from a kite, of some of this year's entries.

I've lived in Minnesota my whole life, and I've never heard of this whole shanty deal. Thanks for the heads up.
