What can $87 billion buy?
For starters, Bush's bill for undoing the mess in Iraq could cover the budget deficits in ALL the states. It could cover two years' worth of unemployment benefits for 1.1 million Americans who are out of work. $87 billion is: twice as much as the US spends on Homeland Security, nine times as much as it spends on special education, ten times what it spends on all environmental protection efforts, and
on and on. Fiscal conservative, my ass.
