Amsterdam-based artist Job Wouters--better known as Letman--combines influences from graffiti to Asian calligraphy to cowboy lettering in his large-scale, hand-painted text works. He was in Minneapolis in mid-March to install his latest such work, the word "Home" rendered in pink, brown, and green in the Walker Art Center lobby. In a new video (plus time-lapse), he told us how he embraces beauty over conceptualism, and why he chose the word "home" for the piece. “I think a museum can be so much more than a place where some well-lit pieces hang and you feel scared and not at ease," he said. "It’s very important to feel safe and comfortable at a museum, enjoying something beautiful or weird or surprising.”
