On Bush's seventh day trip/
photo op to Gulf States, the president urged
personal energy conservation: "We can all pitch in...by being better conservers of energy. I mean, people just need to recognize that the storms have caused disruption and that if they're able to maybe not drive...on a trip that's not essential, that would be helpful." Interesting admonition considering Bush's lifelong oil links, a track record opposing smart energy policies, and—most ironic of all—the fact that his call came during
a plane ride that burned up 11,437 gallons of gasoline.
