Robertson: Judges are worse a "more serious threat" than al-Qaeda. Wow. On This Week with George Stephanopolous yesterday, Pat Robertson made a bunch of wild assertions: insinuating that Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a communist because of her ties to the ACLU, implying Muslims and Hindus are unqualified to sit on a federal bench, etc. Most bizarre, however, is when Stephanopolous quoted from one of Robertson's books: "the out of control judiciary is the most serious threat American has faced in nearly 400 years of history. More serious than al Qaeda, more serious than Nazi Germany and Japan, more serious than the civil war." Questioned about this, Robertson replied:
It depends on how you look at culture. If they look over the course of 100 years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that's held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings.

He's still a kook, in my humble opinion, but point well taken. Thanks.

That's a scary disclaimer. "I'm not saying racism or sexism or whatever it was we supposedly agreed upon before are in any way defensible, but..." It kind of negates what follows. I suspect, Propandada, that what you're really trying to say doesn't appear in the words you use. Your lamenting a loss of national pride and consensus, but I'm not sure what that's code for. Did we have national pride and consensus after September 11? Or during World War 2? What have we lost that you'd like us to regain?
